And the "Most Stupid Post in Reddit history" award goes to...

...Oompa Loompa Mike Schiraldi for posting "Obviously, the reddit gold program turned out to be a huge success."  Lol!!!!

Oompa's pride and joy
Mike explains "I'm reminded of this whenever I look at my 'Inciteful Link' trophy, which I got for the post that announced it".  What an ass!  Apparently Mike logs in every morning to make sure his 'Inciteful Link' trophy is still okay.

"I don't want to embarrass anyone by linking directly to their comments," says the Oompa Loompa.  Um, you mean other than yourself?

Lol.  Here are my conclusions.
  • Reddit Gold was a massive blunder that cost Reddit's boss at Conde Nast her career.
  • Reddit Gold is a business model that Conde Nast did not choose and has no way to get out of.
  • It creates a legal conundrum because when the charity donors decide they want their money back they're going to have to figure out who owes who what.  The whole thing will end up in court.
  • That makes Reddit impossible to sell, which Conde Nast tried to do and could not.
  • If all it took to be a successful company was to move down the hall, then all companies would move down the hall.  It's not hard to do.
  • Conde Nast already paid for that office space and it is in the ghetto of SOMA where people get shot going to work.  The space was probably available because the former occupants were murdered.
  • After seven years, Reddit still doesn't make money, which is why they want you to "draw conclusions" about their success instead of presenting facts.
  • Reddit employees are disappearing faster than Scientologists.  Their "I love Reddit but I'm leaving in 10 minutes" blog posts - including Raldi's - are frequent and not a sign of a healthy company.
  • Casey Anthony is more stable than Reddit.
It just doesn't get any more stupid than that post.  What a dumbass.

Any predictions for when reddit will finally crash and burn, Lou?

It already has. I'm reminded of that every time I look at ex-employee Oompa Loompa's Inciteful Link trophy, which - like Raldi - I do twice a day.

Why hasn't reddit gone down in flames like digg did?

You think reddit has *already* gone down in flames? Sounds like you are the dumbass here. Alexa shows reddit to be the #131 most popular website (http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/reddit.com). Not exactly "down in flames" to anyone with a working brain.

A reddit founder was just arrested, facing 35 years in jail, and that's the best you can do?

Lou, you really let your readers down today.

I'll try to do better.

Reddit and Conde Nast never gave Aaron Swartz the respect he deserved. Aaron was by far the most talented employee Reddit ever had. By far.

He was the brains of the outfit. Also-rans like Alexis and Raldi tried to build careers by riding his coattails, but they were never in the same league as Aaron. Not even close.

> Alexa shows reddit to be the #131 most popular website

Great. How much money does Alexa give them for that?

Oh, none?

Dumbass.

http://www.businessinsider.com/myyearbook-acquired-by-quepasa-for-100-million-2011-7

1.2 billion pageview site that makes less money than reddit sold for 100 million in the middle of a recession.

Oh yes, Conde Nast will shut reddit down any day now.

This is where you back up your assertion that "that site makes less money than reddit". I'll get the popcorn.

Conde Nast shopped Reddit around and couldn't find a sucker, er... I mean buyer. Why do you suppose that is?

Hulu was shopped around but couldn't find a buyer. Why do you suppose that is?

Ah, misdirection. I know nothing about Hulu. If you have some salient point regarding Hulu, you're going to have to tell us what it is.

Have you ever watched Shark Tank on TV? The first questions they ask is "how long have you been in business and how much money have you made?" If the company is profitable, then they'll ask about their business model.

Reddit has been in business for 7 years and has lost money each and every one of those 7 years. They are losing less money now, which seems encouraging until you discover that their new business model amounts to begging in the street for charity.

After 7 years, the site still goes down every 3 or 4 days and barely a month goes by without a blog entry about another one of their employees mysteriously leaving - sometimes without even having another job lined up.

The most surprising thing about Conde Nast is not that they endlessly pump millions into propping up this proven financial loser, it is that they would associate their brand with
/r/jailbait and /r/picsofdeadkids. Even if Reddit were profitable, the Googles, Yahoos, and AOLs of the world would never make such a sophomoric blunder.

Pageviews mean nothing. The objective of business is to make money. Reddit is a hobby that Alexis tricked Conde Nast into thinking was a business.

Yes, they will shut it down. They aren't going to lose money on that pig forever. Why would a company want a site in its portfolio that gets a billion pageviews and almost breaks even? What is the upside?

Oh, and by the way. Here's an inconvenient little fact for you. myyearbook.com has monetized their site even LESS than reddit has, and yet they still sold the site for $100m.

Oops, that throws your whole argument right out the window.

How it is possible to "monetize less" than losing money? Are you saying they lost more money than Reddit?

Considering they have no revenue while reddit does, yes, they do indeed lose more money than reddit does, yet they still got 100mil.
Of course, you're so focused on hating reddit that you'll find a way to ignore that inconvenient fact.

Why are you still mad at reddit when literally everyone who supposedly wronged you has moved on to other things?

Hey LouF, why do you use reddit quote formatting on blogger? It won't work.

Did you use wikipedia formatting on reddit for a while too?

Again, since you understood its meaning, it did "work", dumbass.

> Why are you still mad at reddit when literally everyone who supposedly wronged you has moved on to other things?

Take a look at Facehammer's comment history sometime. Today he said "Calling you a piece of shit is an intolerable insult to pieces of shit everywhere", "Hey Dusty you Nazi piece of shit", and "you're such a fucking idiot".

Now look at yesterday's... and the day before that... This has been going on almost every day for literally years.

So why is that allowed but when a Christian repeats his words verbatim for one day, he gets banned for a year?

To this day I am blocked from Reddit, and it IS because I am a Christian. I have created several accounts and I make a couple of posts until Kristine figures out I'm a Christian and uses her admin powers to block my account again.

Meanwhile, what is the very same Reddit admin using Reddit for? To publicly mock the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Do you understand what I am saying to you? It is a truly horrible website and it is still run by truly horrible human beings. These people appoint themselves admins, censor Christians, and use their admin power to mock Christ. That is not only unfair but despicable beyond words.

I have met some horrible people in my life, none worse than the people running Reddit.

I feel sad that you are being mistreated this way. I too have been an outsider. I know what jerks the in crowd can be. That is not fair.
