More Reddit Misdirection
Here is a pretty typical PR release out of reddit. They make a huge noise because something minor changed - in this case, a meaningless organizational tweak.
Advance Publications owns Condé Nast, which owned reddit. Now reddit will be owned by Advance Publications. Meh.
Although reddit frames this change as "the single greatest event in the course of human history", practically speaking this change means nothing whatsoever.
The change was made to create levels of abstraction. The truth is that reddit has devolved into a porn site and Conde Nast doesn't want to be associated with it any longer. Think about it: Conde Nast owns women's magazines like Self that focus on the empowerment of women. How much longer can they defend the fact that the same company also hosts forums for women beating and rape?
Instead of doing the right thing and shutting down their rape forums, they clouded the issue. They made a minor organizational tweak to make it look like reddit is owned by a different entity. Of course, no company wants to be associated with reddit, so they are doing all they can to obscure the link between Conde Nast and the disgraceful ghetto that is reddit.
In reality, not only doesn't this change move them forward, it actually sets them back. Look who they appointed to the Board! The same unkempt child who got them in this mess in the first place: Alexis Ohanian.
Worse, this clears the way for the Oompa Loompa's return. The truth is that Raldi is still unemployed and he is begging reddit to take him back. Now he will try to save face by pretending that something has changed at reddit.
But nothing has changed at reddit. You still have the same adolescents running the place that you always had. You still have a site full of underage porn, women bashing, racism and hatred. You still have admins who are committed to treating Christians unfairly. You still have subReddits where "mods" add malicious CSS to reddit's codebase.
You can re-brand a turd all day long, but it is still a turd.

My problem isn't with Reddit's mature content, my problem is with the dumbing down of posts on the front page of Reddit.
I used to find nothing but intelligent questions, advice, and conversations, but now all I can find is stupid pictures of old pop culture and stupid shit.
It's a shame how Reddit has fallen. It started when redditors complained about the low quality of image hosts, so a redditor named MrGrim created Imgur. Now everybody and their mother posts stupid pictures on Imgur and links it on Reddit.
Imgur even gets more unique hits than Reddit now! Just look on Statsaholic.com.
Oh, Lou, we can always depend on you to look at everything in the worst possible light.
Tell us how my comments constitute "the worst possible light". Do some research and you will find that my analysis is spot on.
> It's a shame how Reddit has fallen.
Truer words were never spoken. You seem like an independent thinker and I applaud you for that. But I want to take issue with one thing you said:
> My problem isn't with Reddit's mature content
My objection is not to mature content. If they want to spend their lives hosting pictures of wet tee-shirt contests, that is their prerogative I suppose (as long as kids aren't viewing).
But forums for women beating and rape are way over the line. We are talking about graphic pictures and videos of women getting beaten and raped. We are talking about pictures of women with a boot on their head, tied down, crying, getting raped as redditors post comments mocking them.
That is wrong. It is very wrong. Reddit should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for what they have become.
I hate the Reddit community. Those punk assholes sit at their keyboard day and night, typing insults and discouraging others from improving their lives and following their dreams. Fuck them and their karma system. I give that entire shit hole a downvote.
What a pile of crap the reddit blog is.
Do they really think anyone cares about their org chart?
You can tell they're just rearranging the deck chairs here.
Think about it, outside of the Conde Nast bureaucracy, what impact will this have on anything?
About the only chance the site has now is if they clean up their act and try to attract a normal audience.
Hot photos of children scare away advertisers.
Less heavy-handed moderation would calm the rampant intolerance.
Be hands-off, except if the content is grossly offensive.
In short, act like adults and the rest will follow.
