Lou has a point on this one. Is it too much to ask that you be treated fairly on a website owned by a fortune 500 company? "Stupid" doesn't even begin to describe the reddit admins for letting subreddits like jailbait continue. This is common sense for anyone who wants to run a successful business. Is it so hard for the admins to comprehend? Another day, another horrible subreddit springs up without admin moderation. Fail mods, fail servers, fail morality, fail everything over at reddit. Post after post in those terrible subreddits gets left up to embarrass Conde Nast and make the rest of reddit look bad. What will it finally take for them to wake up over there? A lawsuit, or even more negative media coverage? Dumbass reddit won't know what hit them when Conde Nast actually does step up to the plate, man up and finally stop allowing this crap to keep tarnishing their reputation.
I skimmed through the front page this evening, and they keep cracking jokes about the news video with comments like "Who's going to man the jailbait table at the Reddit con?" or "Here's a picture of a nude daughter, thousands of upvotes.".
It's a shame. They glorify their own social problems by celebrating memes like "Forever Alone" and "Socially Awkward Penguin". They don't want to be fixed. They want to remain disgusting and stupid.
Even though I keep up with this mess by skimming the front page every night, I started using StumbleUpon to seriously browse the internet. Every single web page promoted on StumbleUpon is so much more entertaining and intelligent than anything reddit offers. I feel like my IQ has gone up 50 points.
I don't think reddit's going to find a way out of this one.
See, they can leave jailbait up and lose all their advertisers, or...
What do you think happens if they ban it? You will see a mass exodus of users.
Did you follow the thread about when reddit will be shut down? There might have been a slight error of chronology, but it'll happen before the end of the year.
I have been reading this blog for a year now. I saw the Anderson Cooper piece live on CNN and I couldn't believe my ears. They said the same things that Lou has been saying here, almost word for word. It was almost like they were reading right off this blog.
Lou said "the surprising part is that a big, otherwise respectable, company like Conde Nast would involve themselves in this. Conde Nast's brand is worth millions. They own the New Yorker, Parade Magazine, Self Magazine and many many others". Anderson Cooper said "you might be just as surprised as we were to learn where these pervy grownups are finding these images. They are being posted on a site that is part of one of the most respected publishing empires on earth - or so you'd think if you were reading the pages of the New Yorker or browsing Vanity Fair's website." Jeffrey Toobin on CNN said "it is amazing that a big corp would have something like this that reflects badly on it". I wouldn't be surprised if Lou said exactly those words here someplace.
It is almost like they just read this blog over the air.
Lou said "Let's be clear about what 'jail bait' means. We're talking about an internet forum devoted to grown men who want to have sex with underage girls." Anderson Cooper said "jailbait... let than name sink in" and "it was set up expressly for grownups".
Lou teed off on reddit's blog post about how reddit will "positively impact journalism" and so did CNN.
Lou always talks about the subReddits of dead body pictures and so did CNN.
Lou talked about kiddie porn on reddit and so did Sunny Hostin on CNN.
Somebody commented on this blog that there are limits to free speech and you can't yell "fire" in a crowded theater and CNN said the 1st amendment doesn't protect child porn.
There is no doubt that Lou heavily impacted that piece. I don't know if he worked with them directly or if they just found this site using Google and took material from here.
I wonder if CNN knows that Lou is only doing this because he is mad that reddit banned him.
> Lou has a point on this one. Is it too much to ask that you be treated fairly on a website owned by a fortune 500 company?
Truer words were never spoken.
The obvious irony here is that they have no problem with people who post rape photos, but those who dare to post Scripture get banned and harassed.
The hypocrisy is amazing. Look at Eric's quote: "Once we start taking down some things we find offensive then we're no longer a free speech site and no longer a platform for everyone."
Not a site for everyone?!? Unthinkable! When I had my account and IP address blocked for a year I had a lot of time to think about how much reddit is for everyone. What a dumbass.
Yes, I have been alerting CNN and other media organization about reddit. I'd rather not give too many details yet because I'm not done. By the time we're done, reddit will be gone. CNN hasn't even started exposing the rape and women beating forums, but stay tuned.
Reddit has no problem with perverts but they ban Christians. That's not okay. They needed to be shut down and I'm glad I was able to help facilitate that. I gave them EVERY opportunity to treat me fairly before taking action - even as recently as last week. They declined. Bad call.
I am a Christian. I had an atheist troll harass me on reddit for an entire year. I reported it to the mods and admins for an entire year but they refused to take action. I brought attention to the problem by reposting the troll's text. Reddit decided that the fair thing to do would be to ban the Christian for posting the identical text for one day that the atheist was allowed to post for one year.
Later, they decided it would be fair to give the subReddits I created to that same atheist troll.
I contacted them last week and gave them another opportunity to let bygones be bygones and to be fair about this. They didn't even acknowledge my email. The next day they were on CNN.
They obviously have not treated me fairly, but I treated them fairly right up until the end, giving them EVERY opportunity to treat me fairly before I took action.
If you were trying to explain what the word "hypocrisy" means, you couldn't find a more perfect example than reddit banning Christians for the identical text that atheists are not banned for, and then claiming that they must host jailbait photos because if they removed them "then we're no longer a free speech site and no longer a platform for everyone."
Reddit uses the metaphor of "karma" to describe its point system. But karma is a real force in the world. If you go to extremes to mistreat individual users because you don't like their religion or race or gender, sooner or later that will come back to bite you in the ass. That is where we are now.
Ultimately, I can't make reddit treat me fairly. I can only make them wish they had.
Can you elaborate on how you "gave them another opportunity to let bygones be bygones and to be fair about this"?
Were you just asking for your subReddits back? Or did you demand they ban your enemies, fire people, publish a blog post personally apologizing to you, etc?
I asked them to "treat me fairly". If they had any interest in fairness whatsoever they could understand what "fair" means. It really isn't complicated.
If you were running reddit, would you ban a Christian user for repeating the same text that an atheist used? Wouldn't you at least ban the atheist too, since he posted that text for a full year and the Christian posted it for one day? Would you then give the subReddits that the Christian created to the very same atheist troll?
Does that seem fair to you? Is that a difficult situation for reddit to rectify? Obviously not.
Reddit has thousands of truly horrible forums that needed a light shined on them. But since most people aren't going to take the time out of their daily lives to become an advocate, those forums have not been exposed to the media.
By going to extremes to screw over people because of their religion, reddit has created motivated enemies who are willing to spend the time to raise a red flag about their content.
If reddit won't be fair just for the sake of being decent human beings, they should be fair because people will treat them the way they have been treated. Companies never win in the long run by screwing people over and creating enemies for themselves.

Are you saying you tipped off CNN?
Sadly, the reddit community doesn't care.

Are you really saying that you are the reason for this, Lou? Proof?

What happened last week?
I am a Christian. I had an atheist troll harass me on reddit for an entire year. I reported it to the mods and admins for an entire year but they refused to take action.
